Projects

Over the last decade, we have been at the forefront of construction and development in the region. Here are a few examples of our contributions.

Building complex structures in challenging locations is one of our strengths. AASHAR United heavy civil capabilities include designing and/or building bridges over rivers, highways and overpasses.

Since 2003, our project portfolio has expanded to include a multitude of bridge projects. Our experience encompasses not only the construction of bridges, but the design, repair and replacement of them as well.

Samawah Bridges and Roads Construction Project

The Ministry of Construction and Housing-State Commission for Roads and Bridges of the Republic of Iraq - Japan International Cooperation Agency Loan (JICA) for the purpose of designing and constructing the Samawah Bridges and Road Construction Projects. AASHAR United is responsible for design and construction of three bridges; Samawah North Bridge, Mahdi Bridge and Hilal Bridge with their approaches. The main structural concept is to focus on the use of the Precast Concrete panel with pre-stressed beam and column. The design approach is to emphasize on the practicality and the functionality of the bridges blended with modern architecture elements without disturbing the integrity of the bridge structure. The Mahdi and Hilal bridges are the focal points and landmarks for the surrounding area so their design reflects this status. These bridges designed to give a significant impact not just to the local architecture but to the society as they redevelop the nation. In the past, the existing site dids not contain any bridges despite the need to connect the two areas. In a joint venture with DAAR Engineering Company of USA, our subsidiary Burj Al Emaar was awarded the contract to build the project as main contractor of three bridges and their respective approaches over the Euphrates River in Al-Muthanna Governorate. Project details include:

  • Samawa North Bridge is 242m length (800 ft.) consists of 7 spans (16m width/span). Four concrete spans with 25m length/span, and three steel spans with 45m/span and 54m/span. Steel girders used are 145m length and they are among the longest used in Iraq which are manufactured by a Canadian Firm. Project includes four architectural towers 35m height with a date palm shape to represent architectural style of the city. This bridge connects main road between Samawa and Diwanyia and it is the main enterance of city of Samawa.
  • Hilal Bridge and Mahdi Bridge are 192m length each (630 ft.). consists of 8 spans (12m width/span). These two bridges connect Samawa City Center with Hilal and Mahdi Provences respectively.

The construction of these bridges will alleviate traffic jam in Samawah City and will help avoiding the catastrophic situation during the flooding season by replacing the floating pontoon bridge in Hilal City and causeway in Mahdi area. In addition, it will improve regional economy; agricultural transportation as well as the humanitarian situation of people living at the area. A touch of modern architectural elements is emphasized at these bridges, set to become a landmark to the modern city of Al-Muthanna Governorate, the proposed modern bridge design will not only add significance to local architecture but will also inspire the society in its quest to redevelop the nation. Currently Mahdi Bridge and Hilal Bridge are open to public, Samawa North Bridge planned to be opened in June 2016.
