Preparation Study and Design for Al-Thubat Interchange In City of Kut – Governorate of Wasset
Client: Ministry of Municipalities and Public Work (MMPW), Republic of Iraq. The interchange is located on the main highway in the heart City of Kut, one of the major cities in southern Iraq. The purpose of the project is to reduce the number of fatal accidents that occur almost daily to the highway which connects the ports of southern Iraq with the capital passing within high population areas. The scope of the project includes:

Abdallah Abu Najm Road - Mamlaha
New construction of 2nd carriageway 18.2km length and construction of three new bridges over rivers in Mamlaha – Samawa. Project includes construction two lanes for 2nd corridor in two segments. First segment Samawah/Mamlaha/Abdallah Abu Najim Road in Al Muthanna Governorate length 18.2km. Second segment the road of the Al Doh Cement Plant length 3 km, width 8m with two sides shoulders 3m wide, and new construction of three bridges to reduce traffic jams. Bridges are Slibat Bridge over Al Qadissiya River, Bridge of Al Doh Cement Plant. Each bridge is 5 spans, 20m length, 6 piers, three columns for each pier, drill shafts 1.5m diameter, concrete girders pre-stressed pre-cast 20m length and 85cm height. Over Railroad Bridge 3 spans 20m length for 1st and 3rd span and 26m length for the 2nd span, 4 piers, pre-stressed pre-cast girders 26m length. This corridor will serve residents in Mamlaha and Salman Counties and serves quarries and cement plant areas, which will reduce loads and traffic jams on the existing roads currently used by heavy trucks and semis, eliminate flooding during rainy seasons, also this corridor is the first stage of Samawa – Najaf main road which leads to Saudi Arabia borders, corridor serves tourists and tourism as it leads to Sawah Lake.
